Once again I found myself at a fitness club this morning. I intentionally went later (my scheduled allowed it). In doing so, I found additional Forgotten Pleasures. A new time--a new crowd.
I had forgotten how funny looking old people are when they are 'pumping iron.'
I had forgotten the delightful spectacle of over-age, over-weight, long-forgotten armchair quarterbacks. The little victory dance they try to do when cheering for "their team" on the ESPN highlights, while struggling to keep their balance on the elliptical machine. Seemingly to complement this eye-full, there is also the easy-chair coaches who share their wisdom of how a sports team (or player) should be managed and/or coached.
I had forgotten the down side of positive thinking. I'm a firm believer in the power of positive thinking--the importance of casting a vision of what you 'will be', and acting on that. However, the downside is when folks wear the spandex in which they envision themselves looking good (after 18 months of hard work). Again, the State Fair holds nothing on the New Year's resolution crowd at a popular fitness center.
Tomorrow morning I take on my own fitness equipment.
